Pure Reason Revolution announce ‘Eupnea’ / their first studio album in nearly 10 years

Last year, Jon Courtney and Chloë Alper reunited the much-loved Pure Reason Revolution, playing their first show in close to eight years at Midsummer Prog Festival in the Netherlands, and performing their debut album ‘The Dark Third’ in full. Today they are excited to announce the release of ‘Eupnea’, their first new studio album in nearly 10 years, for the 3rd of April 2020.

The band comments:

“We stuck to our manifesto of no musical boundaries and the result was ‘Eupnea’. We return to a more progressive sound with ferocious guitars, thunderous drums and the stacked harmonies that give us our signature sound. We’re excited to begin playing it live.”

You can also watch a brand new interview clip where they discuss the process of getting back together last year, and playing Midsummer Prog, here: Continue reading →

Album Review: Aspherium – The Embers of Eternity

Album Review: Aspherium – The Embers of Eternity

Norwegian progressive death metal band Aspherium are back with their third album, The Embers of Eternity. Melodic, brutal, expansive, catchy and epic are all words I could use to describe this album. What we have with The Embers of Eternity is an ambitious concept album put together by a band who clearly knew what they wanted to achieve and had the talent to do it.

Mixing together a wide range of metal styles is never easy but The Embers of Eternity brings together elements of death metal, thrash, folk and black metal with ease, then adds in some incredibly catchy choruses along with some technical prog. It could have easily turned into a disjointed mess but instead becomes a wonderful journey where you never know what is coming next. Continue reading →

New Album ‘Faithless Rituals’ Released 20th March (New Heavy Sounds)

“I just wanna tell you guys a little somethin’ about this record.
Somethin’ that you really need to know.
I want this to perforate your eardrums, have a fight inside your head and leave a slow burnin’ fire in the darkest part of your mind.
That will never let you forget what will be embedded inside you forever”

These are the words of Dave Catching, Mojave Lord, guitarist with Eagles Of Death Metal, QOTSA and also co-producer along with the band of the latest release on New Heavy Sounds.

Dave’s intro opens ‘Faithless Rituals’, the debut album from Sky Valley Mistress. 8 tracks of full on hard, and heavy stoner rock, that is guaranteed to nail your ass to the wall from the get – go.  8 tracks of fierce passion and spirit.

Video Nasties Announce New Album ‘Dominion’

Video Nasties Announce New Album ‘Dominion’

Released Friday 13th March (Apf Records)
Since 2017, something has been lurking in the shadows around Merseyside, snarling from the unseen corners with a piercing horror-metal atmosphere; that something is Video Nasties, and they’re ready to strike with their moral-panic inducing heaviness.

Comprised from members from some of Liverpool’s finest heavy exports in The Bendal Interlude, SSS, Magpyes and Iron Witch,  the quintet that is Video Nasties mix death metal with punky and thrashy undertones, creating something morbidly macabre and devilishly debauched.

Recently signed to the label – on Halloween 2019 no less – Video Nasties finally bring their reign of terror to APF Records. Set to unleash their debut full-length Dominion [APF025] on Friday 13th March (of course) on all good formats – LP, CD, cassette and digital – Video Nasties are content to lurk no more; get ready for their slasher soundtrack to rip your eardrums to pieces soon.

‘Drone Eagle’ is the first taster to be shared, described by bassist Rick Owen as a song about, ‘Armageddon. We’re going to hell in a hand basket, baby and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. A demise driven by power, greed and corruption.’
