Rod Rodrigues unveils new track “La Première Expérience”

Rod Rodrigues unveils new track “La Première Expérience”

As the year of 2020 drew to a close, guitar extraordinaire Rod Rodrigues released another blistering track, the expansive “La Première Expérience”. The song will be part of Rod’s new full length album, entitled “Tales of a Changing Life”, to be released on the second half of 2021.

“La Première Expérience” is the culmination of Rod Rodrigues’ evolution as an artist, and its seeds date back to 2012, when he did his first international trip. Leaving his homeland of Brazil to visit France inspired him and gave Rod a first taste of what it was like to live in a different environment. The guitarist, now based in Toronto, borrowed elements of French music and jazz to compose this spacious and evocative track. The homage to Paris can also be seen on the cover of this single, and also on its music video.

Rod’s focus from now on will be on the Progressive Melodic style, where he is not worried about playing a million notes per second, but where melody is the main point. That idea is prominently showcased on “La Première Expérience”, where he wears the influence of other guitar heroes such as Steve Vai and Andy Timmons on his sleeve, but drives his creative efforts onto new and unexplored avenues. For Rod, the importance does not lie on a barrage of notes, but on the feelings that his guitar playing evokes.

Accompanying Rod Rodrigues on “La Première Expérience” are Rodrigo Abelha on drums, Bruno Ladislau on bass and Milo Andreo on keyboards and piano. The guitars were recorded at Bianzeno Studio in Toronto, Canada, and the track was edited by Diego Pereira at Diehouse Studio – Brazil. Mixing was done by Renato Osório in Brazil, and mastering by Tony Lindgreen (James LaBrie, Marty Friedman, Opeth) at Fascination Street Studio, Sweden.

“La Première Expérience” will be released on December 15 2020, and the cover art for the single was done by Gus Avancini. A music video, produced by Toronto 360, and all the links to buy this song will be made available on Rod Rodrigues’ social media accounts and on his website, as shown below:

Quick Questions With Chaoseum

Quick Questions With Chaoseum

Chaoseum creates an energetic music in a modern metalcore style. A polyvalent voice adds personality and another aspect to the songs. The musicians’ custom makeup as well as the theatrical side of their show captivates the public.

The band was founded in 2018 by Loic Duruz and Valery Veings, both former guitarists of the symphonic metal band Elferya. Their first album “First Step To Hell” containing 11 songs was released in September of the same year with Lola van Lo as the singer and Greg Turini as the drummer, both former Elferya musicians as well. This album was recorded at the Chaos Studio and mixed by Izakar at the Full Metal Studio. The artwork was entrusted with Gustavo Sazes.

In February 2019, Chaoseum joined Soufly in the USA for a tour of seven concerts on the east coast. Afterwards, back in Switzerland, the singer left the band which then asked CK Smile to join them. The song “First Step To Hell” was subsequently rerecorded.

A limited-edition Live album was recorded at the band’s second concert with CK as a frontman. It was released under the name “Live In Hell – Les Docks Lausanne 2019”.

In September of 2019, the band joined Tarja (Ex-Nightwish) for a tour in Russia. It had a considerable success with Russian metal fans.

Representing the Xvive brand, Chaoseum went to Los Angeles in order to perform at the Namm – the largest music trade show. There, the band also took the opportunity to play at the legendary Whisky a Go Go.

A few weeks later, the foursome released a first single “Into My Split” from their next album.

The album named “Second Life” was released on September 25th, 2020. It is recorded at both the Chaos Studio and the Conatus Studio. Gwen Kerjan from the Slab Sound Studio is in charge of the mix, and as always, Gustavo Sazestakes care of the artwork.

Quick Questions With Chaoseum

Answered by Valery Veings

1.Who inspired you to start playing?

When I was 14, I would watch almost everyday my video tape of Iron Maiden, Live After Death. I wanted to play solo like Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. I saved all my money and bought my first electric guitar one year later.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

My blue guitar Solar and my Kemper.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

I think “Viva The Underdogs”of Parkway Drive. It’s a really good live album.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

The first name to come to my mind is Kee Marcello. I like his solo and his sound. One of my favorite guitar solos is in “Superstitious” when he played with Europe.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Feel free to learn and play what you like.It doesn’t matter if everything is not perfect at the beginning. You will play better soon and it’s really demotivating if you only play scales or exercises.

In 1997, Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, and Tony Levin, joined forces to create Liquid Tension Experiment. The foursome would release their iconic, self-titled debut album in 1998 and the dazzling follow-up, LTE2 in 1999, creating a dynamic, frantic, and inventive sound all their own. The incredible creativity between the collective would prompt Petrucci and Portnoy to invite Rudess to join Dream Theater, effectively marking the end of this side project.  However, since that time, there have been few reunions more in demand. Now, with the world in lockdown and calendars unexpectedly aligned, the inconceivable has finally happened… a new Liquid Tension Experiment album.

Quick Questions With Esteban

Quick Questions With Esteban

UK Desert Funk band Esteban recently released their new album, Jackpot Motel. I caught up with them to ask them the Guitar Noodle Quick Questions.

Quick Questions With Esteban

Ricky Houghton – Bass
1. Who inspired you to start playing?

As a Bass player strangely it was JimI Hendrix. i thought he was the coolest guy ever so i wanted to try and do what he did, but found myself naturally drawn to the bass. My parents had a few Beatles Tapes & Lp’s I had grown up with so the bass lines of Paul McCartney seemed a good place to start. After that i just took in as much bass heavy music as i could from Primus to the Wailers.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

My Lakland Jo Osborne bass. I have always either played Fenders or Warwick basses. When things started to take off for us musically i was always reading about Lakland basses on bass forums, I cheekily emailed them and managed to get one from them directly and it hasnt left my side since. Its been faultless on tour going from cold van to hot venue again and again and just always manages to stay in tune. In the studio it just sits nicely in the mix. No bells or whistles, just a really solid Jazz bass. The bass is about 16 years old now and to me sounds better than ever.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

In search of lost time by Proteje … He’s always been one of the nearly men of modern reggae, a few good tunes, this album just hits the spot, spirituality, big beats and good vibes.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Bootsy Collins – Nobody has better feel than Boosty… Whether its in a hip hop sample, JB record or P Funk you cant help but dance to Bootsy

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Just live, breathe and eat music, soak up as much different music as you can. As a bass player work on developing the rhythm section of your band, listen to how guys like Bonham and John Paul John, or Sly and Robbie play

Liam Ryan – Guitar
1. Who inspired you to start playing?

The early 90s had such a massive influence on me. It was a great time for guitar-based music and it felt like there were many cool cultural shifts happening musically. I just remember an endless stream of new music at the time and so many influential bands/artists to be discovered (new and old). However, it was John Frusciante’s playing style on the album Blood Sugar Sex Magic that had the biggest impact on me.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

It’s probably a bit too obvious to choose a guitar… and it would be very easy for me to choose my PRS that has played hundreds of gigs and never let me down… but it’s an acoustic guitar that I truly couldn’t live without. Pretty much everything I create musically follows the same process; curled up on the sofa with an acoustic guitar where I can truly lose myself!

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

Honestly, I’ve not really listened to a lot of new stuff recently. Although, I’m enjoying The New Abnormal by The Strokes. I’m glad those guys are still doing their own thing. There is something authentic and honest about their music which is really refreshing. It’s like they’re too cool to care about what the listener thinks… Which for some reason really appeals to me.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

We are so lucky to live in a time where lessons are so accessible online for us guitarists. It’s almost become too easy to expand your musical knowledge. That said, it’s also a time where we can easily be distracted and consumed by ‘stuff’ that gets in the way of progress. So, for me it’s more about finding the right headspace and motivation so I’ll go with Aristotle! But if he’s busy, I’ll have a 1:1 with Jimmy Page please 🙂

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Never stop learning, but use your ears first and foremost… and always go with your gut!

New Music Video From Major Moment Titled ‘The Flood’

New Music Video From Major Moment Titled ‘The Flood’

The story behind ‘The Flood’…

Being independent artists for us means being fully involved and invested in all aspects of creating a unified vision behind what we stand for as a band. It sure is overwhelming at times and comes with some challenges, but it also allows us to expand our creativity to formats beyond just audio, whether it’s album art, designing merch or directing music videos. That’s exactly what happened with “The Flood” and the music video for it. We started planning it back in January of 2020 (the final version of the song was still months away, we were working with a pre-production demo), when we first pitched our idea to Tyler Ayers of Reverly Studios, the director of our music video. We thought it was next to impossible to make our vision a reality, with all the technical aspects of it, but Tyler simply called our idea “genius” and said we had to do it.
It then took us over 6 months of planning and 4 more months of editing and post-production to get it to where we are today.

From flooding the room with 6000 gallons of water dyed pitch black, to real black caviar, to 16 crew members that all helped to make our original artistic vision come true, it’s been a wild ride, and Major Moment’s most ambitious project to date. We seriously couldn’t wait any longer to share it with everyone, and are proud to present you “The Flood”, as we always wanted you to experience it…

New Release: Keep Me Down – Breathe

New Release: Keep Me Down – Breathe

Blending influences such as Peter Gabriel and Pink Floyd, Breathe marks a change in styles for Keep Me Down.

Mark Smith said –

The Breathe writing session started off on the piano which is pretty unusual for me. This took me in a different direction compared to when I write on the guitar. While I was writing it I actually thought it might not feature guitars at all but then I got out my new Schecter Nick Johnston signature model and the Gilmour style licks seemed to come pouring out.

Released on Saturday 1st of August, Breathe is available now on all of the major streaming services.
