Tesseract – Portals: The Multi Format Release Of The Aural & Visual Cinematic Live Experience

Tesseract – Portals: The Multi Format Release Of The Aural & Visual Cinematic Live Experience

In December 2020, TesseracT invited fans to join them in P O R T A L S – an ambitious concept created to offer an escape in a time of isolation. The live cinematic experience fused live performance with beautiful lighting and striking effects, brought together by chaptered screenplay. By taking their most daring steps as a creative force, the band offered the viewer a completely new and unique experience.

TesseracT performed songs spanning their entire catalogue. Highlights included “Nocturne” off their 2010 debut EP, Concealing Fate and continued with “Eden” (One, 2011), “Of Matter” (Altered State, 2013), “Tourniquet” (Polaris, 2015), and “King” (Sonder, 2018), with the whole performance capturing 14 songs over 2+ hours. The show was a phenomenal success and garnered praise from fans and media worldwide

“The quality of the audio and visuals provide testament to TesseracT’s statement that the performance represents their biggest production to date

Prog/ Louder Sound

“Everything from the stage to the sound to the visuals were killer… a beautiful two-hour venture. TesseracT should be very proud of themselves for delivering such an immense quality of work for their fans during these unfortunate times”

Metal Insider

Bass player Amos Williams reflects on the show and its forthcoming release It is only with hindsight and some time to appreciate it that we realise what this show meant to us. P O R T A L S as a show was an experiment afforded to us in a time when anything was possible because nothing of our previous life was possible. The overwhelming acceptance of such an approach to our music, and the stories contained within it, has shown us a potential path forward for TesseracT. It was exciting to connect with our fan base in such a difficult time for everyone, and it was powerful to see how it allowed some respite and escapism. These things were the gifts that this show gave to us, a direction and a drive, as we use this show’s example to forge a new path for TesseracT.”

Now, Kscope are proud to present this unique event to a wider audience for the first time. The film and soundtrack will be issued on an array of formats including Blu-Ray, Triple LP soundtrack and as a limited edition deluxe 4 disc book edition on 27 August 2021.

Quick Questions With Prime (UK Band)

Quick Questions With PrimeChris D Bramley – Guitarist

1. Who inspired you to start playing?
Probably my cousin as he had Guitar Hero so I would always go round to play it!

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?
My Hughes and Kettner amp. I’ve had it since I was 13 and I still take it everywhere.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?
Fat Pop by Paul Weller. It’s a good quality pop album, really well-produced and well thought out. Crafted so well that you can hear the small details in the music.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. First of all he would probably teach me not to do acid! Seriously though, I think I could learn so much about feel and phrasing which he was the master at.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?
Stick at it, enjoy what you do, stay open-minded musically and explore different genres and styles, is the best advice I could give.

Quick Questions With Ask Carol

Quick Questions With Ask Carol

Based out of the Norwegian mountain community Auma, comes the grungy alt-pop duo Ask Carol. Ask Carol is a high energy power-duo with a big sound. Multitasking is their middle name. Two guitars, drums, a synth, a drum machine and an unique splitting system for Carol’s guitar, makes this two-piece sound like a full band. Their sound can be fierce and mean, then suddenly turn soft and comforting.

Their sound could make you think of artists like the Kills, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with a Nordic, melancholic twist. Ask Carol has toured in the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Scandinavia, SXSW two times and more, and supported The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Their first EP was released on Grappa Musikkforlag. The band now put out their music on ChoVan Records, their own Indie Label. Given the special circumstances, tours and concerts are postponed. They have a concert scheduled for September 4th in Oslo. This year they will be focusing on new singles, and an upcoming album slated for Fall 2021.

Quick Questions With Ask Carol

Quick Questions With Ask Carol

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

Ask: I remember reading the biography of The Clash, about when they started out in London, and it really inspired me, so I picked up my mum’s old guitar and started making a little sound. That was where it all started, and it snowballed from there on, and well, now we’re here.

Carol: I’ve been surrounded by music since before birth. My dad put headphones on mum’s belly when she was pregnant. Haha. But my first memory was/is probably of my dad playing “The Stones” or Deep Purple and my mum ABBA or something on vinyl records. I’ve been super interested in music since I was small, but when I saw the movie “Sister act 2” with Lauryn Hill (when I was maybe seven), I knew I wanted to sing, but it took me almost twenty years to actually do it. I fell in love with the sound and the looks of the guitar about the same time, but that was also a long process. I bought my first guitar when I was 15, super inspired by the grunge era. You can say I’m I late bloomer. Haha.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

That must be the guitar. The guitar is the most important thing for both of us.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

Ever since Spotify and stream took over, our music listening habits changed. We really don’t follow artists the way we did before. Also, we have been so busy with making our own thing work during the covid situation, that there has been very little time to check out new stuff. These might not necessarily be our favourite albums, but som great albums from this spring are Royal Blood’s «Typhoons», the new Black Keys album «Delta Kream», «Blue Weekend» from Wolf Alice, just to mention a few. There are many more great ones out there, they ofte just drown in the sheer amount of new releases coming out.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Oh, that’s a tricky one. One guitarist we really love is Jimi Hendrix, and it would be awesome to get a lesson for him. His style is unique, and seeing what he does, how he does, and his philosophy on creating guitar parts, that would be super interesting.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Just do it! If you sit around doing nothing, nothing will ever happen.

We are currently working on our debut album. It will be released this Fall, with a few singles first, so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, you can check out the new music video for our latest single, Darkest Hour

Leprous – Announce new studio album “Aphelion”

Leprous – Announce new studio album “Aphelion”

Creative Norwegian rock outfit LEPROUS are pleased to announce the release of their new studio album “Aphelion”, coming August 27th, 2021 worldwide via InsideOutMusic.

Following up on 2019’s highly acclaimed “Pitfalls” album, LEPROUS recorded “Aphelion” throughout the last year at three different studios: Ghost Ward Studios in Sweden, Ocean Sound Recordings in Norway and Cederberg Studios in Norway. The album was once again mixed by Adam Noble (Placebo, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves, etc.), mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Placebo, The Gaslight Anthem, etc.) and its front cover artwork – designed by Elena Sigida, based on photography by Øystein Aspelund – can be seen above.

LEPROUS vocalist/keyboardist Einar Solberg checked in about “Aphelion” as follows:

“We had no plans to start with a new album, then came Covid. “Aphelion” is a very different album. It’s intuitive and spontaneous. We’ve experimented with many completely different ways of writing music and explored new ways to work. There has been no room for overthinking, exaggerated perfectionism or carefully planned songs. I believe this is one of the strengths of this album. It feels alive, it feels free and it does not come across as too calculated.

The album was recorded in three different studios, and a few of the songs were actually recorded in all three studios, Ghost Ward Studios, Ocean Sound Recordings and Cederberg Studios.

The aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object where it is farthest from the sun, and it has a symbolic value which I will leave to your own interpretation.”

Look out for the album pre-order to start on June 25th, 2021, enhanced by the release of a new single!

In the meantime, feel free to re-visit the band’s latest single “Castaway Angels” here:

Quick Questions With Catching Mangoes

Quick Questions With Catching Mangoes

Catching Mangoes are a three-piece rock band, George, Max and Dan, based in Brighton, UK. After forming in around 2016, they have played relentlessly around the UK and have recently recorded their debut album ‘Kevin’s Town’ in Brighton.

The album follows the tale of a young boy named Kevin on his adventures, escaping his home town in search of the truth about himself and his fellow townsfolk. In trying to figure out the mystery surrounding his long-lost father, Kevin comes to realise that only he can save his town from a terrible fate.

Quick Questions With Catching Mangoes

Quick Questions With Catching Mangoes

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

I started playing guitar when I was around 8 or 9. Can’t really remember what inspired me to start at that point but I remember loving Jimi Hendrix when I was younger. Then got into bands and thought it was super cool so never stopped.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

One of my guitars I guess. I probably play my acoustic which is a Martin most of all and do a lot of writing on that, but I never really use it outside of playing on my own. Band wise I use a Fender Jaguar Bass which I absolutely love. Planning on investing in a Mustang at some point when I get some money.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

We’ve not released our album just yet so that makes it a tough call. Nah just kidding, Fontaines DC released a new album that I’m into, but that may have been 2020.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

I reckon Jeff Buckley was a pretty cool dude and has a mega voice so I’ll go with him. Or maybe Jim Morrison.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Persistence is key but play stuff you enjoy playing, otherwise there’s no point.

We have our 4th a final single from our upcoming album ‘Kevin’s Town’ out on 24th June. The tune is called Bloom Orlando and we’re celebrating in style on 26th June down at the Hop Yard in Forest Row. We then take on London on 17th July and Brighton on 16th August before we hit the north later this year. Full album should be out mid August so keep ya eyes peeled for that, Vinyl pending too!

Spotify – for all our social links!

Thanks for listening see you all soon xxx

New Track: Trash Heads – Set It Right

New Track: Trash Heads – Set It Right

From the band: “The song was written around the main guitar riff which starts the song – we thought it had a Nirvana vibe to it and is quite dark so the lyrics and vocal melody reflected that. However the chorus that sprang out from there is very happy/positive, it became an anthem for looking forward to a bright future out of the darkness we currently find ourselves. It was written pre-Covid, but has definitely taken on new meaning since! We don’t like to write our songs/lyrics to be too on-the-nose so leave a lot to people’s imagination or interpretation.”

New Track: Trash Heads - Set It Right

Bio: “Lurking in the depths of Kent, Brit Alt-Rockers Trash Heads mix heavy crashing guitars & drums with strong vocal hooks. Formed in 2014, Trash Heads were created by 3 old school friends who went to the same school as Mick Jagger (not at the same time of course!), and joined by local scene drummer Mike Coyne, they released their debut album ‘Skyscraper Heartbreaker’ in 2015. After playing many shows around London and the South East the band has been writing and recording their sophomore album ‘Vandalism’ which after Covid-enforced delays is being released this autumn.”

New Track “Changing Plans” From Rod Rodrigues Now Available

New Track “Changing Plans” From Rod Rodrigues Now Available

The crafty hands of guitar wizard Rod Rodrigues once again reward us with a new track, the progressive and modern-sounding “Changing Plans”.

Initially intended for his first EP, 2010’s “The First Step: Introduction”, “Changing Plans” was meant to have vocals, but through the years it evolved into a whole new song, now an instrumental. It’s another step of Rod Rodrigues’ lustrous career, and mixes influences from Nuno Bettencourt and Dream Theater. The song is also part of a compilation called “Volasophy”, a selection of tracks from latino artists sponsored by Vola Guitars, which was released by New World Records.

The Toronto-based guitarist borrowed elements of fusion, prog and jazz to compose this enticing new track. The cover art was created by Argentinian artist José Duacastella, and portrays the “change of plans” in life, and moving between countries, a journey that Rod carried out a few years ago when he moved from his homeland Brazil to Canada.

Rod Rodrigues continues to focus on the Progressive Melodic style, with melody taking center stage. Throughout the four minutes of “Chaning Plans” we hear a wide array of arpeggios, tasty leads, odd time signatures and complicated scales, but ultimately, the feeling transpired from the song is what matters most.

Accompanying Rod Rodrigues on “Changing Plans” are Rodrigo Abelha on drums, Heitor Tenório on bass and Orlan Chaves on keyboards. The guitars were recorded at Rod’s Home Studio in Toronto, Canada, and just like

“La Première Expérience”, the previous track he released, the song was mixed by Renato Osório in Brazil, and mastered by Tony Lindgren (James LaBrie, Marty Friedman, Opeth) at Fascination Street Studio, Sweden.

“Changing Plans” was released on June 11 2021.

The full band music video, and all the links to buy this song is available on Rod Rodrigues’ social media accounts and on his website, as shown below:

Quick Questions With Ghosts Of Sunset

Quick Questions With Ghosts Of Sunset

Ghosts of Sunset features former Dutch Henry singer-songwriter John Merchant from Western Michigan, and one time Michigan resident and now residing in Florida, multi-instrumentalist and former The Verve Pipe drummer Todd Long,

The duo are presenting a full-length album titled “No Saints in the City”. Following the formula laid down by “Headed West”, Merchant and Long once again invited musical input from a cast of influences that includes members of 1980s “hair-metal” staples like Bang Tango, Little Caesar, Lita Ford, and E’nuff Z’nuff, but widens its musical palette with guests from bands like Gene Loves Jezebel, the Cruzados, and the Great Affairs.

While not a “concept” in the pure sense that “Headed West” was, “No Saints in the City” still uses its 11 songs to deeply explore characters, their struggles, and the human experience. The album serves up music you can hear with songs you can feel.

The first single on Golden Robot Records, “No Saints in the City” due out on June 8, 2021 mines the fertile soil of the quest to “make it” on the streets of New York City and just what the true cost is spiritually and emotionally. The attention of detail paid to the songs main character instantly connects and draws the listener in.

A second single to be released later in 2021, “If You’re Not Coming Back” looks at addiction, love, and loss with an unflinching eye. Ghosts of Sunset pride themselves in being able to present material with “weight” as well as good-time, punk attitude, solid rock n roll.

“No Saints in the City” still bears the mark and influence of the 1980s hard rock and “hair-metal” scene, but opens its door to a wide-range of influences as varied as late 70s punk and rock n roll like the New York Dolls, the early glitter of Bowie, the ground-breaking work of Hanoi Rocks, as well as artists like Jesse Malin, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen and even authors like Danny Lyon and his book “Bikeriders” (a result of a deep affinity for the music of Memphis Tennessee-based rockers Lucero).

Throughout “No Saints in the City”, guitars clash over a relentless bed of driving bass and drums, while lyrics and vocals avoid typical cliché as they further compositions that take twists and turns eliciting a visceral response to every story told.

Ghosts of Sunset and “No Saints in the City” will definitely leave a mark that keeps listeners returning again and again trying to place themselves inside of each story

Quick Questions With Ghosts Of Sunset

Quick Questions With Ghosts Of Sunset

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

Todd – I am originally a drummer but when my friends started leaving their guitars at my house for band practice I decided to just pick them up and start noodling around.

John – My dad was a musician and I really wanted to be like him when I was really young. After that, John Lennon and George Harrison were the first guitarists whose name I knew and wanted to emulate.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

Todd – I could not live without my computer or my pod for a quick easy recording.

John – Right now it’s my Rockitt Retros 68 Plexi and my Valvetrain Ghost 211 boost. Both are amazing. Kevin at Rockitt Retros builds the best handwired Plexi style amp on Earth, and Rick at Valvetrain Amps has built me killer amps over the years and the Ghost 211 tranlucent boost takes anything you plug it into and gives it additional character you can’t hear on its own.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

Todd – The Dead Daisies – Holy Ground

John – Its not brand new, but “Everybody Moves, Nobody Gets Hurt” from the Great Affairs has more hooks than a tackle box and so many amazing guitar tones it should be handed out as a lesson book on rock n roll tones.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Todd – I would love a lesson from Yngwie Malmsteen. I could never get to that level of playing though. My fingers just won’t do that!

John – It would be nice to sit down with George Harrison and learn what his mindset was when he approached a song. He always plays for the song and creates timeless parts.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Todd – play what you feel inside! Don’t follow trends, be a trendsetter!
John –  Love it for it’s own sake. Do it because you can’t imagine doing anything else.
