ESP Guitars New 2020 Models

ESP Guitars 2020 Line-up

ESP have been busy refreshing their product line-up for 2020 with an incredible amount of new models. In fact, there are too many to show you at once so I’ll be picking some of my favourites from the models announced so far.

The Phoenix Is Back

The Phoenix is a guitar that could be no more cool, and it has returned to the LTD lineup, now as an LTD Deluxe version in two different outstanding versions. The LTD Phoenix-1000 See Thru Black Cherry features a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker active pickups (Alnico in the neck position, Ceramic in the bridge), with a push-pull control to activate the second voicing. The Phoenix-1000 Vintage White offers a passive pickup set, with a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat single-coil in the neck position and a Seymour Duncan Custom in the bridge. This humbucker also can be split via a push-pull control. Both of these guitars have a neck-thru-body design, with mahogany body wings and a three-piece maple neck. Other features of the new Phoenix-1000 include a TonePros locking TOM bridge and tailpiece, LTD locking tuners, a Macassar ebony fingerboard, and gold hardware.

Additions to the Black Metal Series

The LTD Black Metal Series has some new models, including the LTD M-HT Black Metal and LTD M-7HT Baritone Black Metal. These are hardtail versions of the Black Metal M Series guitar, with a standard scale 6-string version and a monstrous 7-string baritone version as well. Both models are neck-thru-body designs that features a Hipshot bridge with string-thru body setup for sweet sustain and stability. They feature the special single direct-mounted Seymour Duncan Blackened Black Winter passive pickup for brutal tones and excellent dynamics. A push-pull control allows the pickup to be coil split. Like other Black Metal models, these new guitars have an unadorned Macassar ebony fingerboard, but offer glow-in-the-dark side dots to help you find where you’re going.

Introducing the ’87 Series

ESP are releasing a range of faithful recreations of full set of ESP guitars from the eighties wit the all new ’87 range. These include the Tele style Eclipse ’87, M1 Custom ’87, Mirage Deluxe ’87 and Surveyor ’87 bass.

Alex Wade Signature AW-7 Baritone

This is one one my personal favourites and one I’ll be very tempted to buy. The LTD AW-7 Baritone is a 7-string guitar at 27” scale that has a swamp ash body with an outstanding Open Grain Black Satin finish, and its five-piece maple/walnut/paduak neck has a Macassar ebony fingerboard and stainless steel frets. The AW-7 Baritone gets its tone from a set of direct-mount DiMarzio D-Activator 7 pickups, and also features a Hipshot fixed hardtail bridge and LTD locking tuners.

LTD Deluxe 1000 Series Additions

The 1000 series is being expanded with a number of new models, including the SN-1000HT in Purple Blast finish, and the SN-1000FR in Black Blast finish. Both of these new guitars feature a swamp ash body and a roasted maple neck and fingerboard, which is scalloped above the 17th fret and has stainless steel frets. Perhaps the most immediately noticeable thing, though, is their killer sandblasted finish! The SN-1000HT has a Seymour Duncan Sentient/Pegasus pickup set that is splittable with a push-pull control, and a Hipshot fixed bridge. The SN-1000FR comes in an H/S/S pickup configuration, with two Seymour Duncan Hot Strat single-coils and a Pegasus in the bridge, as well as a Floyd Rose 1000SE bridge with stainless steel screws.

Another new LTD Deluxe guitar debuting for 2020 is this M-1000 in Purple Natural Burst. Like many M Series models, the updated M-1000 is a shredder’s dream come true. It’s a neck-thru-body design with an alder body and a burled poplar top, and an extra-thin U-shaped 3-piece maple neck and Macassar ebony fingerboard. For a little extra speed and comfort, it has a natural satin finish on the back of the neck. The M-1000 includes an EMG 57TW/66TW pickup set with push-pull controls on volume and tone to split each pickup discretely.

More LTD Deluxe Models

The LTD Deluxe M-1007, delivers the fast feel and smooth playability of the M Series in a 7-string version for serious brutality. It’s a neck-thru-body design, and has a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern Humbuckers (Alnico in the neck position, Ceramic in the bridge), with a push-pull control to activate the second voicing.

Finally — at least for now — here’s the LTD Deluxe Viper-1000 EverTune, which adds the innovative EverTune constant tension bridge to the offset double-horn Viper design for the first time. The Viper-1000 EverTune also includes top-tier components like direct-mount Seymour Duncan Sentient (neck) and Pegasus (bridge) passive pickups, splittable by a push-pull control, and Grover tuners.
