Quick Questions

Al Kay – Guitar / singer

1. Who inspired you to start playing?
RHCP guitarist John Frusciante, Sublimes late Bradley Nowell, Nirvanas Kurt Cobain, all got me really into playing.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?
I can’t go on without a specific type of pick. I only use Dunlop Nylon .88 mm picks.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?
My favorite album of the year has to be Drake’s Scorpion album. I love it for its melodic nature and it’s catchiness!

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
If I had to get a lesson from one person, I would choose either Miles Doughty or Kyle McDonald from Slightly Stoopid. Not only are they really good players, they have also been in the game for a very long time, and would love to hear their crazy stories and their advice.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?
Keep it fun and do your own thing!

Tim Frankeny – Bass

1. When I was in 7th grade (2002)I was inspired to play music by my Uncle. There was always an acoustic guitar around the house, but I didn’t really learn until high school..being a multi-sport athlete took time, but music slowly took over.

2. I couldn’t live without my laptop. I run my entire business from there. Music production, music practice, my calendar, my investments, and my money management all rely on my computer. I couldn’t live without my vt bass deluxe pedal, when it comes to playing bass live. Tone wise, that is my bread and butter.

3. My favorite album this year is a tie between Tycho’s Weather and Kiefer’s Superbloom.

4. If I could take a lesson from any person in the world if would have to be from John Entwistle, bassist of the Who. His style was unreal and it changed music forever.

5. One tip I could give a new player is to never give up. Music is a journey and it never ends. I have not ever stopped learning new things through all my years of playing.
