Quick Questions

We have a triple Quick Questions for you today!

Gordon (Gogsy) Sinclair

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

Steve Jones Sex Pistols, first guitarist I ever really listened to and tried to emulate. (Even the facial expressions hehehe)

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

Guitars. The amps and cabs you can get again and again but the guitars are very personal

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

This Year? Pffff lets say The Treatment Power Crazy

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

A lesson would be Gary Moore, to play with would be Dave and Adrian Iron Maiden

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Play through the pain, it goes away. Play what you love that way you will keep it up.

Nigel Robinson

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

Unquestionably Michael Schenker. His melodic approach is still unique and I’ve always loved his vibrato technique.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

Right now, my Blackstar ID:100. The head isn’t too heavy and it sounds awesome, even through ropey house 4x12s, thanks to the resonance and presence controls being adjustable outside the programmed tones.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

Apart from Terror Eyes? I’m quite enjoying Whitesnake’s Flesh and Blood with that Joel Hoekstra / Reb Beach combo!

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Either Michael Schenker or George Lynch. I love Paul Gilbert but I’d probably learn more useful techniques from a player who’s pinky isn’t the same size as his ring finger.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

New players shouldn’t be put off by initial discomfort. Practice little but often until your calluses are developed. Practice basic single string vibrato before even thinking about scales. That way, whatever you learn is going to sound closer to what you hear from the pros and will inspire you to keep playing.

Demy

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

I’ve always been inspired by Geddy Lee and Geezer Butler, however, it was Lemmy that really focused me on bass. Mind you after seeing Cliff Burton I was blown away. What a player. What a loss. That said I now play like none of them………!

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

Dunlop Tortex triangle .60 picks. Can’t get used to any other ones.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

That’s easy, ours!!

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Has to be Geddy Lee. His style of playing is incredible. Not to mention playing keys, bass pedals and various other bits of kit. Have no idea how he can section his brain off to do it all.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Persevere! Bass is one of those instruments that is a lonely existence practising with. No one is happy to hear just a bass. It’s kinda meaningless without a band. No one ever suggested bringing a bass to a campfire sing-along!!! Keep playing. At gigs, I tune into the bass and drums. I hear the guitars, but they aren’t at the front of the music for me. Couldn’t tell you the words are in songs! It’s all about the rhythm for me.
