Quick Questions With On Better Terms

Quick Questions With On Better Terms

Fusing groovy melodies and jazz driven rhythms with harsh yells and spoken word vocals, On Better Terms are a hard band to categorise. They have just released a new full-length record called Waves. Please go check it out on Spotify!

I caught up with Alex Rincon (guitar) and Alex Kershner (bass) to ask them the Guitar Noodle Quick Questions.

On Better Terms Interview

Quick Questions

1. Who inspired you to start playing?

Alex Rincon – My family really. My parents were both successful musicians when they were younger and always used to say ‘hey you should learn how to play an instrument.’ I finally did when I was 14.

Alex Kershner – Listening to bands like Periphery and Circa Survive made me want to start playing music.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?

Rincon – Probably my Egnater amp head. It’s so versatile and versatility is something I look for in music gear.

Kershner – Anything and everything I have made by Darkglass Electronics. They make fantastic gear.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?

Rincon – I’m not sure if I have one yet since we’re only a few months in. But I will say the new As Cities Burn songs that were recently released are really good.

Kershner – Periphery IV: Hail Stan

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Rincon – Miles Davis. He was a brilliant songwriter and one of the greatest musicians that’s ever lived. I would ask him for pointers on improvisation techniques and songwriting.

Kershner – Jon Stockman from Karnivool. He’s an amazing player and it’d be awesome to sit down with him.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?

Rincon – Practice. Learn a new technique that you currently don’t know to make better every day. Find your play style and stick to your guns. The beauty of music is that everyone has a unique voicing and the key is to find yours and flourish.

Kershner – Practice, practice practice. Practice a lot and do your research on gear.
