Quick Questions With The Simple Radicals

Quick Questions With The Simple Radicals

The Simple Radicals combines sounds and styles from some of our favorite classic/alt-rock bands like Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Cheap Trick. Our album is titled “New Revolution” (HERE).

It features the guitar-God Vernon Reid from the band Living Colour playing lead guitar on our track “Medicate” ( HERE).  We also just released a song and video called “Rich Man Wanna Be King” which provides a candid and mocking lampoon at President Trump.

And we just released a podcast series called “Music & A Brew” where we crack open a craft beer with an all-star musician. Our first show features world-class drummer Kenny Aronoff who has played with virtually every A-lister including John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Paul McCartney, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. Watch HERE

Quick Questions With The Simple Radicals

These questions were answered by John Griffin, lead guitarist of the Chicago-based rock band The Simple Radicals

1. Who inspired you to start playing?
Jimi Hendrix no doubt. Was one of the most innovative and ingenious guitarists of all time. He inspired so many musicians over the decades including me.

2. Which piece of equipment couldn’t you live without?
Honestly, all I need is one guitar!!! That’s it. Just to have the axe in my hands is enough for me.

3. What’s your favourite album of the year so far?
You have to check out the album Visions of the Void by Red Fiction. Jason Schimmel is such a brilliant guitarist who can jump from one style to the next including blues, jazz, rock, folk and heavy metal. And it’s so well produced. Seriously check this mother out.

4. If you could have a lesson from anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
The Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel…who is still alive thankfully. He has this incredible fingerstyle technique and was named the best acoustic guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine a couple times. Listen to the album “The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World” that he recorded with his hero Chet Atkins. It’s sick beyond sick.

5. What is your number one tip for any new player?
Keep your ears open to EVERYTHING, don’t get in your own way.
